Part III Chapter 5: The Village: A Hostage
NOTE: TRIGGER WARNING
The people of the village were gathered in the church for safe keeping. The holy establishment was now a holy stockade, guarded by three of the beasts, continually circling the building, while two sat at either end of the building guarding the internal exits.
Both fathers stood in a corner, near the altar with Johan and Margaretta. The fathers whispered to one another trying to find a plan to escape. They knew that Marcus would be coming soon. He needed help.
The closest of the beasts came near, “NOOO TAAALKIIING!”
Margaretta motioned Johan to what was behind the altar. There, leaning against the wall, behind the table of God was the large crucifix. Their lord and savior had been removed, and in place of the statue hung the village preacher. A small silver crucifix hung around his neck. It was sacrilegious, but, she was sure their God wouldn’t mind.
Margaretta stared blankly at Johan in attempt to reach him, like she had in the past. He looked back at her, nodding his approval.
Johan leaned in closer to the fathers, to share the plan.

Marcus walked slowly in front of the beast of Mister Locke down the main street toward the old village church where Kritzia and a minion stood ready, convincingly being nudged forward causing him to stumble forward.
“Easy, there,” Marcus whispered behind him.
As they approached the new makeshift prison, Kritzia stepped forward with an expression both of angst and misery. She changed when Marcus stepped into the light. She smiled with certainty. Her plan had to work. She needed Marcus. She needed to be with him. They were meant to be together.
“I’ve missed you.” Kritzia placed her hand on his shoulder lovingly, then stroking his ear seductively.
Marcus shivered as he usually does when a beautiful woman plays with his ears; this one, more than any other.
“I trust Mister Locke treated you adequately.”
“Yeah,” Marcus began sarcastically, “real good.”
Kritzia leaned in for a kiss. Marcus accepted.
Inside the church, all hell broke loose.
